Just in time for the holidays (yes, it's getting to be about that time) I've made my smallest terrarium yet. It's very gift-able at just 4 inches high. In fact, it is a spice jar if that helps put the size into context. Contains a mini selaginella moss and organic soil. For reasons too complicated to explain, I had some terrariums at work last week and one of the guys hooked me up with actual well lit composed shots. Hot dang! Kicks the crap out of my camera phone pics that's for sure.

So- I know I said I do custom terrariums but if this is what you're into, you've gotta provide your own shoe! At first mention of a "stripper heel as terrarium", my mind went to somehow shoving plants and dirt in the clear heels. Shows what I know...

The Wedding Parties

Crate and Barrel hosts an event for all who register with them called The Wedding Parties. I met their event coordinator, Jared, at the Brooklyn Wedding Crashers show and he invited me to participate in 2 of their shows this month. I was extremely flattered and excited to be there! I made some great contacts and got free mimosas and cappuccino. Always about the snacks with me huh?

I went with yellow daisies b/c I really dug their pop graphic appeal. Everything around my table was a mix of greens, yellow, and pinks so it was perfect. Should you be engaged and registered at Crate & Barrel, I will be there on the 21st as well(Houston/Broadway location). Oh, and if you are curious, the glass pictured is actually from Crate & Barrel. I used the Tilt Bowl, the Olson Bowl, and the short Delfina Jar.

This past Saturday, the 9th, was the Wedding Crashers show, sponsored by Brooklyn Based. Maybe it was the Prosecco, maybe it was the passed hors devours, but I had a great time! Obviously I loved meeting potential clients but I hadn't anticipated the warmth of the other vendors in the bridal community. Perhaps because I work in fashion? An industry known for it's, shall we say... "colorful" personalities?

I met a ton of cool, interesting, and talented people and spent the whole day chatting and snagging treats off of the catering tables. Both The Green Table and One Girl Cookies were there! Yum!

So between running my mouth and stuffing my face, I barely took any pictures. Once back home I took a few more.

While I was home (Cincinnati) over Christmas, my dear old Dad said he wanted to learn how to make a terrarium! Though retired, he works part-time at a recreation center and wanted a new activity to try with the kiddies.

It's a pretty snappy process and within 20 minutes or so, we had 2 terrariums. Can you tell who's is who?

I must say, I applaud his use of found objects! He literally walked around the house and found things to throw in his.

I added a little lady bug that they sold at Michael's. Normally, I'm not a fan of cutesy-poo things anywhere, terrariums included, but I figured I was in Ohio and should play to my audience.

And apparently, these killed at the rec center so there ya go...

All Stars Helping Kids

The other week, I got a call at 11:45pm asking for "emergency terrariums" for the following morning.. After an initial panic I figured it was totally doable seeing as how the flower markets open at 5am. Did I mention it was a Monday? And that I had a shoot the next day as well?

It was for a friend who's organization does great work (see title of post) so I was in. The outcome, while not traditional terrariums (I used primarily cuttings, branches, and even some raspberries), still evoked the spirit and provided a beauty that lasted well beyond the luncheon they were created for.

Now although, you and I aren't close personal friends, you should still contact me for your next event. And, uh- I generally like more than a days notice!

Miller Time

Last night was the debut of House of Miller, an exciting new lifestyle design firm created by Heather Miller. I met Heather my very first time out at the Brooklyn Flea. She invited me to be a part of her showcase and last night was the night! I've attached a few pics of including some Before and After. The champagne flowed, the African drummers drummed, and there were even live birds. Recipe for a good party no?

The room I was set up in was in the theme of 'African Restaurant' so I made the terrariums in that style.

So as mentioned, I attended a Martha Stewart taping today with two of my friends. I took along a small succulent with moss and a lavender sprig to see how far I could get.

Surprisingly, no one seemed to mind the strange box I was hauling around and I breezed through every check point. As we were being seated, I asked one of the producers if it was possible to have it given to her as a present.

Although they don't usually do that, she said she'd see what they could do. I thought, "yeah right", until a few minutes later, she did in fact come take it from me. Wow! Who knows if it will ever really grace Martha's presence but it least it's in the building...someone may like it right?!

Anyway, Thomas Keller was there and everyone got a copy of his new book, ad hoc at home; which I'm already reading and salivating over.

Tomorrow I'm going to a taping of
The Martha Stewart Show with some friends. A few weeks ago, she was at the Brooklyn Flea but I missed her. A wise woman suggested I bring her a small terrarium as a present. Not sure if they let you do that sort of thing but I'll certainly give it a try! Think she'll like this one?
